The Life Of The World By Fr. Alexander Schmemann - 969 Words

For the Life of the World authored by Fr. Alexander Schmemann an Orthodox priest was originally intended as a â€Å"study guide† in the 1970’s for students preparing themselves for Missionary work, giving them a â€Å"world view†, helping to speak about Christian view points along with an approach to how they coalesce through the eyes of the Orthodox Church. A key theme Fr. Schmemann discussed is Secularism, which he believes developed from our progressive alienation of the Christian culture. Additionally, he presents his interpretation of the transforming biblical themes of creation, fall, and redemption through a sacramental understanding. Fr. Schmemann’s experiences within the Orthodox Church liturgy reveal unity in the meanings of these three themes. It is through these understandings he believes can effectively offset the disastrous effects of secularism while revitalizing the sacramental understanding of the world. The author divided the book into seven chapters, each building upon one another; The Life of the world, The Eucharist, The Time of Mission, Of Water and the Spirit, The Mystery of Love, Trampling Down death by death, and Ye Are Witnesses of These Things. Moreover, two Appendices follow the chapters: Worship in a Secular Age and Sacraments and Symbol. In particular, Fr. Schmemann opens by converging on the ostensibly minor theme of nourishment, even quoting famed philosopher Ludwig Feuerbach’s phrase. â€Å"Man is what he eats.† Anti-religious groups attempt to portray

The New Covenant - 2180 Words

In the Old Testament, six covenants are made that put man in a closer relationship to God. God initiates these covenants as a guideline to help man to find the eternal salvation that is heaven. The people that make the covenant with God fail every-time and God always carries out what he says will happen because of these failures. It is important to remember that these covenants are more than a contract, they are sacred oaths that, if broken, must be punished accordingly. In this paper, I will be showing how all six of these covenants connect to each other and how they connect to the final covenant, the New covenant, that is fulfilled by the coming of Jesus Christ. The first covenant made between God and man is the Adamic covenant. This covenant was made in the Garden of Eden with Adam. The first part of this covenant says that Adam is God’s first born son. In Genesis 1:27 it says, â€Å"So God created man in his own image† this means that Adam is God’s firstborn son because later, in Genesis, Adam’s son, Seth, is said to be in his father’s â€Å"image and likeness†. This shows us that using â€Å"image and likeness† means to be calling someone a son. The second part is God having Adam defend and serve the Garden of Eden. This is only used in one other part of the bible which talks about what priests do in the temple. This means that God is appointing Adam as priest because he is defending the temple that is the Garden of Eden. Thirdly God appoints Adam as king; God has him rule over allShow MoreRelatedThe Branch Between The Old Covenant And The New Covenant Essay1686 Words   |  7 PagesThe branch between the Old Covenant (OC) and the New Covenant (NC) is, for many, a debatable issue. The main topics for these debates are on salvation coming from the OC Law (Mosaic Law/ Torah) that one must â€Å"work† to accomplish, or salvation coming from faith in the NC alone. Many theological genres have sprouted up throughout the year’s arguing the relevance of the OC Laws (Jewish Torah), and the â€Å"Law of the Spirit† as Paul states in Romans 8:2. Because of these different views, various doctrineRead MoreThe Church Is A New Covenant1166 Words   |  5 Pagesassembly of God’s new covenant people who have been graciously redeemed from sin, death, and the devil and have been united to Christ through faith in his salvific work on the cross and through his resurrection.† Some key points in this definition that should be noted are that the church is a new covenant people and we are united in faith through Christ’s work on the cross. Paul writes in Romans that the Christian is no longer under Old Testament or Mosaic Law, but is now under Christ’s Law (Rom 7:6 ) and that justification by faith, not works under the law is what will make a man righteous (Rom 3:28). They have to make sure that that they use the right grading to get the correct response to the incident and that they ensure peoples safety. When looking at the emergency incident responses system. You also have to look at the civil contingencies act 2004. The civil contingencies act is important because it decides who is under what category of response and how urgent the response is. This act gave a new definition to the term emergency. This definition covers many different things for example it covers terrorism and dangers to people’s health. This Act is split in to 3 parts. Part 1 defines the obligations of certain organisations to prepare for various types of emergencies. This puts a legal obligation in place to local authorities and the public services; these are called category 1 responders. The main job which is put in front of them is the job of informing the public of the incident in which has just happened. Part one is all about local arrangements to protect the citizens. Part 2 is about emergency powers which are temporary emergency regulations made in the name of the queen by the order in council these regulations last for a maximum of 21 days but parliament can choose to extend this time if they see fit to do so before it ends. The next part of the act is looking at the definition of category 1 and category 2 responders. Every responder has an emergency planning officer. Their main role is to make sure they have good communication with the other responders and that they stay in accordance of the act. Category 1 responders are core responders or â€Å"blue-light† responders. There are 9 different responders for example some of the responders in category 1 are: fire service, police service and the NHS primary care trust. These will normally be the first ones to respond to an incident they get it under control and evaluate if any category 2 responders are needed and if so which ones. Category 2 responders are key and work with category 1 responders they help and support them. Category 2 is utility services and transport organizations Electricity distributors and transmitters and Gas distributors. They also get help for network travel and highway agencies, also the health and safety executive. The police have a certain code they use over the radios to determine how dangerous or life threatening the issue is. When you call the police, the phone call goes to the control room and they will assess the situation and decide on what code to give it the code will play a vital part in whether or not they get to the crime in time. The code used goes from 0-9 in this case 0 is the worse code meaning it is a big incident and al units in the area should get there with lights and sirens on. The code goes like this: CODE 1: Non-emergency response. No lights or siren, following the flow of traffic. CODE 2: Non-emergency response, but important. Must follow traffic laws CODE 3: Life-threat response. Emergency traffic, or simultaneous use of lights and siren required in order to achieve a rapid response. In most circumstances this does allow the responding unit to ignore jurisdictional traffic laws, but does not allow the responding unit operate without due regard to safety. CODE 4: All clear or I am okay. Also used to tell another unit they can disregard. CODE 5: Area under surveillance. All marked units stay out of area. CODE 6: Calling for a cover unit(s). CODE 7: Lunch break. CODE 8: Confidential information. CODE 9: All non-emergency traffic stay off the radio. A beep transmits over the air every couple of seconds. CODE 0: Big emergency. All units in the area respond code 3 to the units location.

Nonverbal Communication Human Interaction -Myassignmenthelp.Com

Question: Discuss About The Nonverbal Communication Human Interaction? Answer: Introducation Communication is the act of interchanging the thoughts, feeling and the information with each other. In other way, the communication refers to the process of conveying information in order to create a shared understanding (Broadbent, 2013). Communication is based on the different communication skills and communication styles such as the verbal communication, active listening, non-verbal communication and the assertiveness perception. For measuring and the diagnosing the communication there are different diagnostic tools related to the communication of different style. However, I have used five diagnostic tools for measuring my communication skills in order to identify the communication issue and solve the same accounting. Some basic communication tools are used in the diagnosis of the communication styles and skills in the personal as well as in the professional context. The first tool for measuring non-verbal communication skills is the email. Email is used for both personal and professional communication (Baruah, 2012). I use email in a frequent manner for both my personal and professional communication. I found out this can help me not only in communicating with other people but also is helpful in assessing my written communication skills in professional manner as well as the personal manner. I personally feel that the email is the natural feedback tool for the non-verbal communication to help one improving the same. The verbal communication is the prime and the major portion of the communication style (Knapp, Hall Horgan, 2013). Most of the personal communication is the verbal communication. While communication with my close ones, I recognized some issues in my communication skills and manner. I felt that my verbal communication skill is poorer than other people in terms of opening up myself to the other people. In my personal communication, I not only have observed some issues, but also in my professional communication I found out that I am little introvert. Connecting with other people thus, diagnostic I have chosen to be another diagnostic tool related to my communication (Knapp, Vangelisti Caughlin, 2014). Another tool that I have used for economics the issues in my communication styles, is the European Communication Professional Skills and Innovation Programme (ECOPSI), which I came across in the online (Eacd-online.eu, 2017). This communication tool has developed a portal for the professionals, which help them to understand and know the requirement for the professional communication development in terms of the global context. The portal, Portal (for) Advancing Communication Education (P4ACE) has helped me in recognizing the essential competencies for the global workplace in terms of the both verbal and non-verbal communication. In the portal, I took a fifteen minutes assessment test, which gave me feedback on my communication capabilities and report explaining the room for improvement in the same (Youmans York, 2012). Perception of assertiveness is another major aspect in the communication styles and skills. The assertiveness in the communication refers to the ability to speak about the right of own or other people (nal, 2012). For the perception of the assertiveness in the communication, the diagnostic tools I have used are the group discussion project and debate. I strongly feel that the group discussion on any project is an effective way to measure the assertiveness in the communication skills of the people. Again, the debate is another similar tool for diagnosing the communication in terms of the perceived assertiveness. The perception of assertiveness emphasizes on the ability of I statement, which I found I lack excessively in the debate and group discussion (Pipas Jaradat, 2010). The last but not the least tool that I have chosen for the diagnosis of my communication skills is basically on my listening ability. I took my foreign language class as the tool for assessing my listening ability based on communication skills. I took a foreign language class from online. In the process I learned the language by listening it from the online. Therefore, I suppose that the I have been able to the assess my active listening ability using the tool of online foreign language class. I affirm that the listening to the accent and words of the foreign language and learning the same from the process is a fine and effective tool for diagnosing the personal commination (Yang, Gamble Tang, 2012). However, it was not possible for me to learn the entire language from the online class, but I found out that my listening ability has helped me learn the initial and surface area of the language. From the findings of the tools used in my communication diagnosis, I understand and realized my skills and abilities in the communication of mine, both in the personal and the professional context. From the use of email, which I assumed as the natural feedback tool of the communication, I found out that that the personal and the professional email need to be distinguished separately in terms of manner and the language. The next tool being the interaction with the other people has provided me with the wider context as the result of the diagnosis. This tool helped me in understanding my introvert nature while connecting myself with other, which I realized as a negative aspect of my communication skills. From the online portal, I recognized overall need for development in the professional skills, which accumulates the results of all the tools together. From the group discussion and debate, the result I received implies that I lack ability to establish my standpoint, which is applicable both in my personal and professional communication skills. Lastly, the online foreign language class as the diagnostic tool signifies that active listening ability in me is quite strong which I suppose in applicable for both the formal and informal communication. From the findings of the diagnosis through different tools, I have identified two major issues that are predominant in my communication. The first issue that I have encountered is my introvert nature. I have found out that while interacting with other people, I reflect my introvert nature, which leads to an ineffective communication both in the personal and professional context. However, not all the person possesses same qualities, but my realization tells me that I must work on this issue in order to have effective communication. Another communication is my lack of assertiveness, which I have recognized from the debate and group discussion tool. This issue has resulted into weakening my standpoint in a group communication. Hence, I feel this issue requires improvement. In my professional interaction within last two months, these two issues have been apparent. While in the annual meeting in my workplace I was told to present my problems and workplace issues that I had been facing in my workplace. However, I found out that I lacked confidence due to my introvert nature. Again, in a conference held in my workplace, I was supposed to give speech on certain issues and provide my viewpoint on the same. Here also, I was unable to state or establish my standpoint which made my speech vague. Therefore, I strongly feel that I need improvement on these two issues as these are creating hazards in my professional life. The effective and proper communication is the basis of the professional requirements and lacking the same can lead me to the unpleasant consequences. Therefore, the issues provide room for development in the personal communication to ensure my profession. Definition In order to communicate, people need to face the other people. The characteristics of the previous sentence can be related with verbal communication. Here, the term people need to be pondered upon, as it possesses several connotations. On one hand, people can be those who belong to the other groups than their peers and relatives (Asante, 2013). Viewing it from the other perspective, people can be their relatives, neighbors and peers. Interaction with both the groups differs in the subject matters of the discussion. Herein lays the division between the formal and informal. The people belonging to the groups other than the relatives, peers and neighbors can be the office colleagues or boss or managers, with whom formal communication is done. On the other hand, informal communication is the basic means of communication with friends, relatives, peers and neighbors (Grimes Ding, 2014). Key theories and models of interaction with people Social interactionist theory is appropriate for shedding light on the theoretical approaches towards the interactions between the people and the neighbors. One of the prime factors of this theory is the language development. The end poles of this theory are child and the adults; however, according to the requirements of this section, the two end poles of this theory can be assumed as an individual and the surrounding people. Emerging successful, in using ornamental language, for communicating with the neighboring people, results in the language development of the individuals (McQuail Windahl, 2015). Herein lays the appropriateness of the term social development. Viewing it from the perspective of the Vygotskys theory, there are certain influences, which affect the language development of the people. Along with this, cognition also gains preference in this discussion. Reverting to the concept of the child and its language development, I can bring Piagets theory of development to the discussion. According to Piaget, development in child attains the peak position instead of learning. Counter arguing this point saying that the learning is the way towards development. This is irrespective of the demarcations of children, adults or others (DeVito, 2015). In Piagets assumptions, socio-cultural approach towards cognitive development is one of an important fact. Countering this, socio-cultural influences destroy the focus of the individuals in terms of their learning process. This destruction is the destruction of the interaction chain. Critically reflecting on the social interaction theory, behavioral theory can be brought into the discussion. Rational thinking for communicating with the people reflects the matured behavior of the people towards upgrading their preconceived communication skills. Emerging successful in this direction enhances the personality of the individuals among the peers, relatives, neighbors and society as a whole (Bolger, 2014). On the contrary, using ordinary language in the communication places the individuals within the category of foolish class, which lacks the capability of make intellectual thinking. This puts an interrogative parameter to the personality of the individuals in the process of creating a standardized identity. One of the other aspects of this theory is stimulus response. Herein behavioral theory can be attached, as exposing appropriate expression to the stimulus is accounting as one of the prime responsibilities of the individuals, which bears resemblance with the maturity. This maturity can be considered as a mental instinct, which is a psychological aspect for the individuals in terms of enhancing the preconceived communication skills (Hybels, 2014). Viewing it from the other perspective, stimulus can be related with the socio-cultural influences. As a matter of specification, providing the individuals with the suggestions regarding the improvement of the communication skills deviates them from the identified and the specified goals. Affirming with these suggestions reflects the immature behavior of the individuals. On the contrary, indulging in verbal communications with the experts reflects the inner urge towards attainment of proper cognitive development in the field of communication. Environment is one of the other aspects, which is important for the individuals for interacting with the other people. This is in order to support the individuals regarding abiding by the undertaken motion for communication (Argenti, 2015). Definition Providing a topic and asking a group of individuals to discuss about the topic is termed as group discussion. The performance of the team members is important in terms of assessing their capability to perform the allocated tasks and responsibilities. Along with this, group discussions form an important component for assessing the approach of the individuals towards the provided topic. Here, the communication skills of the individuals are tested so as to see the command over language and the ability to handle adverse situation, which might arise at any point of time (Argenti, 2015). Group discussions possess high tendencies of differentiation in opinions, which destroy the unity between the team members. Apart from this, it also generates conflicts, discriminations and harassments among the team members. Therefore, presence of a senior and experienced manager is essential for handling any adverse situation. Spontaneity of the team members is also one of the vital issues, which helps the managers in determining the approach of the team members towards the motion to speak for. On personal terms, group discussions relates to the discussions between the individuals, friends and family members on diverse topics (Erozkan, 2013). Theoretical aspect Groups remove the individual burden of the individuals. Along with this removal, there is an addition of variety and spice in the form of companionship. Groups and team members are formed through the adherence to Tuckmans stages of team development according to the business terminology. However, in the personal life, groups are formed by selecting the person possessing the flexibility to shed off loneliness and boredom from the life of the individuals. Here, general social influence theories can be related. As a matter of specification, there are five components of this theory- no social influence; opinion expression; new information; opinion expression along with new information and structured theory (Koprowska, 2014). Group discussion is an important aspect in the penultimate component, that is, structured theory, as the managers followed an integrated structure for conducting the group discussion. Critical reflection on the components, group discussion acts as a platform for the t eam members to express their viewpoints on the given topic, which enriches their preconceived communication skills. Herein lays the appropriateness of the word new. Action plan Planning is an important aspect, which helps the individuals to expose a systematic approach towards the tasks at hand. This planning proves helpful in prioritizing the tasks and performing them accordingly. Using templates and checklists for planning enhances the clarity of the people in terms of the activities, which they are performing for improving their preconceived communication skills (Adler, Rodman DuPr, 2016). The following is an example of the action plan, which proves appropriate for the assignment: Activities Week 1 Week 2 Week 3 Week 4 Week 5 Week 6 Week 7 Week 8 Identifying the problem in communication Gathering information on the universities offering short courses on Spoken English Taking admission in advanced post graduate communication courses in Central Queensland University or others Data collection on how to improve communication skills by visiting library or self-help books Analyzing the collected data Deducing relevant conclusions Evaluation of the gathered solutions by maintaining reflective journals or interactions Selecting the appropriate solution to the identified communication problem Second round evaluation for excavating the major drawbacks in the applied solution by selecting a mentor Final evaluation Table 1: Gantt chart for personal communication development (Source: Created by the author) Identification of the activities at the first instance enhances the clarity of the individuals in terms of the needful for improving the possessed communication skills. As a sequential step, allotment of the weeks for each activity reflects the confidence regarding the capability to do the task within the stipulated time. Herein lays the appropriateness of time management, which improves and polishes the time taken by the individuals to complete the task within less time than estimated. Regular practice would yield positive results in this direction (Koprowska, 2014). One of the other aspects projected by the Gantt chart is evaluation. This is vital in terms of attaining mastery over issues such as communication skills. Frequent evaluation through the maintenance of reflective journals enables the individuals to track their progress in terms of the identified and specified benchmark. However, consistency in the execution of evaluation is necessary in terms of reaching to the targeted goals. Attending the spoken English classes on a regular basis would polish the preconceived communication skills (Erozkan, 2013). Here, the saying, Practice makes a man perfect, is absolutely apt. Along with this, if the individuals seek better avenues for sharpening their communication skills, they would attain praises for their efforts. However, persistent and dedicated efforts need to be made for enhancing the personality in terms of communication. Typical examples in this context can be practicing the learnt speech in front of the mirror or among relatives, frien ds, peers and neighbors. Lackadaisical approach towards the attained training can prove detrimental in terms of achieving positive results. Typical example of this is getting satisfied with one evaluation of the achieved results (Wood, 2015). Herein lays the correlation with the aspect of asserting the perception in a haphazard manner. On the contrary, asserting the perception after two to three evaluations would justify the attempts made by the individual towards attaining a sound communicative development. Ford Pinto Case Essay Example

Ford Pinto Case Paper Varian Patella Philosophy 131 Michael F. Martin 03/08/2010 The Ford Pinto Case and Utilitarianism In this essay, I will talk about the ford Pinto case, and how the information was withheld from public in order to save company from huge losses and at the same time keep companys reputation Intact. I dont think the decision of the ford company to with hold the information about the safety-issue of the car for which they were already aware of; was the right thing to do. I agree. As a utilitarian the only thing In my mind should be to evaluate the issue solely by utility in providing happiness, neural welfare or pleasure as summed among all sentient beings. The basic ethical principle of this theory is of consequences, weighing them up to determine how every person involved in any event, issue, proposal, project and so forth, would be affected. The aim in doing so would be to decide on a morally right action, one that would result In the greatest overall positive consequences for everyone So every aspect must be examined to evaluate potential good and bad outcomes; If the goods outweigh the beads, then morally, the action can be deemed right. If there are more ad consequences predicted, then the opposite applies. A utilitarian should evaluate the situation based on long term as well as short term consequences. The management had Just aimed to design a car which could be sold at competitive prices by keeping lowest costs regardless of the safety of the passengers. If the case is evaluated on the basis of long term consequences, the information about the issue regarding the safety was owning to come out sooner or later. That is directly going to affect companys reputation throughout the world as a car manufacturer. I believe that even for designing an economic car the safety standards should be carefully considered. Ford should design the car with complete accident-proof feature regardless of dollar spent on It. It Is ethically wrong that the company looks its benefits first and designs such a car and places value on life. It is the corporate social responsibility of the company to see the interest of the consumers first and then look for its own benefits. In addition, at the end the loss was incurred by the company by having to recall the defective cars. Therefore, social responsibility is also important for the long term survival of the company. The cost/benefit analysis In the ford pinto case puts value on the human life. Is that even possible? On what basis should the value of the person be counted? These was certainly a wrong assumptions made during the analysis. Human lives are invaluable because there is no limit to the capabilities and the potential abilities of a human being. In addition to that, the emotional losses to he family of the injured had to be accounted for as well. It also didnt include loss of earnings due to the injury to the family members. The act utilitarian approach requires that we determine what will maximize good consequences. The good consequences In our case would not only De a canapà ©s car out also a sates car. People would rather pay few dollars more if it is going to increase safety. The managers at Ford did not think that making safer cars would have resulted in more good consequences than making cheaper car. This shows that production of Ford Pinto car was unethical as any utilitarian would agree. Hence, the creation of the Pinto did not fit the ethical requirements of utilitarianism due to the fact that the overall costs in terms of long-term payouts and the negative reputation that the Pinto attached to the Ford brand name. Argument: In a situation such as this, one had to make a decision. Cost/benefit analysis seemed to be the most effective way to evaluate the case. The process was followed and although it is morally not the right thing to do, it had to be done for the benefits of the majority at a cost of minority. Defense: I think everyone has the right to say when it comes to safety of their own self. What wrong has minority done so that they have to face the consequences of others action? They certainly dont deserve it and majority doesnt have any right to make decision on others. As a solution in this case, right thing would have been to reveal the concerns regarding the car safety to the public and let them decide if they want to take any chances with safety issues. That is for the cars not already sold. The cars that were already sold, company could have recalled all the cars. Yes, it would have cost the company a lot but over a longer period of time the same case could turn into an advantage for them. As the people will start to believe that ford motor companys aim is to provide the best possible car and they wont at any cost compromise on that. The memo case will instill faith in public that company is ready to lose millions of dollars to provide a good secure vehicle which they can drive without having to worry about the safety. That in turn will blossom their business and that would over weigh the loss that they made during the memo case quite easily.

school days essays

school days essays Dear members of the school board, I strongly feel that the school day needs to end one hour shorter for students in North Carolina. I feel this way simply because students would be able to get home, clean the house, and go to sleep at an earlier time. Everyone wants to get home sooner. Sitting around school all day is extremely boring. Everyone is always dying to get home, and if school got out an hour earlier, students would get home an hour earlier. Instead of getting home at four o clock, students would get home at three o clock. Also, they would be able to concentrate better during the day because they would not feel quite as anxious to get home, allowing them to do better in The second reason school should dismiss at two o clock instead of three is that it would make home life less stressful. Students could help out around the house longer before their parents got home. Instead of getting home two hours before parents, they could get home three hours before parents. Then they could clean up the house before their parents got home. In return, their parents would be very happy, making everyone feel less stressed. The less stressful a home life, the better a student The final reason school should be an hour shorter is that students would be able to go to sleep an hour sooner. If students go to sleep an hour sooner, they will be able to sleep an hour longer. The more sleep students get, the more relaxed they feel. The more relaxed students feel, the better able they concentrate. The better students can concentrate, the better they will be able to do in school. As one can very well see, this all links back to one thing. If school would end an hour earlier, students would be able to perform better academically in school. School is all about success anyway, is it not? Therefore, in my opinion, school should most definitely end an hour ...

(Urgent) Law exam questions Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

(Urgent) Law exam questions - Essay Example The report that recorded by the witness who was also part of the company’s employees indicated that the icicle had been taken off the claimant’s left leg. The judge ruled that since the Santa and elf did not see the icicle as they discharged their duties in the usual and that there was protection scheme in operation the respondent was not in violation of duty. The judge added that icicle was invisible from the employees responsible (elf and Santa) because it was covered with a toy on one part and wall on the other side. So, had they seen it earlier then they could have taken it away and the claimant could not suffer the injury. The judge ruled that the respondent was not responsible for the damage suffered by the visitor because the security system in place could have protected the claimant from falling. In this case, the legal issue involved the duty of care the employees of the company owes the visitors. It is the companys mandate to ensure all measures are set in place to protect the visitors against any injury or joss during the time they are in the premise. In this case, the concern was whether the injury suffered by Dufosse when she fell upon stumbling against icicle was as a result of employees’ negligence. Following the application of an appeal, the appellant expressed dissatisfaction with the earlier ruling. The respondent on the other hand brought forth an argument that the appellant had contributed to injury by falling on the icicle. The judge argued that if the icicle was there to be fallen on then even the employees could have seen that icicle. Therefore, the issue as to whether the appellant had contributed to the injury she suffered was not in order hence there was no contributory negligence in the case. By ratio decidendi, the issue is to assess the base on which the judge of appeal arrived at the ruling of the case at hand. As stated earlier, the judge in the district court
